The wooden bow is an item made with 60 wood and 2 animal tendons and uses wooden arrows as its ammunition. Unlike other ranged weapons, it loads as you shoot, delaying the shot, rather than loading prior to the shot.
Wooden bows are fairly easy to obtain and deal plenty of damage, though the delayed shot can cause problems.
The comparison between wooden bows and wooden spears is complex... an arrow deals half the damage of a spear, but arrows are easier to create in large numbers. Enemies can pick up your spear, but so can you. (I recommend bows, especially in situations where you cannot retrieve the weapon/ammo.)
Overall, The wooden bow can fairly easily savage noobs (although you probably shouldn't, it's mean!) and is a useful weapon for early game.
