Overview[]
This is a page to list some issues, bugs, exploits, and glitches in devast.io. It will deem anything that does not work to its intended purpose, or anything that happens without the developers to intending it to occur. Sometimes it cannot really be considered a bug or glitch, but it definitely would have been intended to work like the way it does. Additionally, the bugs may not even affect gameplay. The format will usually list what the bug is, and lastly an example if the explanation is too complicated, however any of these can be excluded if they are not necessary.
This is a community page! Feel free to refine some paragraphs or add bugs that you encountered in game. This list is not finished.
Buildings and Projectiles[]
Explosives + Building-based tools[]
This bug allows you to amplify the performance of your building-based tools (repair hammer, hammer, super hammer, and nail gun). If you place down or have an explosive in the map (C4, Dynamite, Landmines, Grenades) while you have your building-base tool out, the explosion will mirror that of the tool on a much greater scale when the explosive detonates.
For instance, if you have a hammer out and dynamites lined along a steel door, it will destroy the door with just two dynamites. Normally, it would take much more, but since you have a hammer that can break buildings faster and a dynamite that explodes, the dynamite will then break buildings much faster. This also occurs when the player has a nail gun or repair hammer out when the explosive explodes. If a player were to have the nail gun in their hand when a dynamite explodes next to a broken door, the door will be immediately repaired instead of taking damage, because the explosive mirrors the effect of the tool. The nail gun does not need to be loaded for the explosive to repair buildings, but a repair hammer will use and require nails.
Grenade through Walls[]
This is a problem that is due to how the game engine treats things like grenades and spears. If you stand next to a wall and throw a spear or grenade into the wall, both can pass into the wall, which means a spear can go through an automatic door to activate the platform on the other side, and a grenade can go into a wall to frag Lapabots that are hugging that wall. This may not be fixed as it is one of the few ways that players can counter Lapabot bases.
Automatic Door Collision[]
Occasionally, when an automatic door is open, projectiles and bullets cannot pass through it, despite it being open. The circumstances of this happening are very specific.
Base in the city[]
It turned out that it was possible to build a base in the city without receiving radiation. All items in the building are radioactive and should therefore be removed using. If you clear all objects for 3 fields around you, then you will not receive radiation. The proof in the picture
Entities/AI/NPCs[]
Low-wall AI Interference[]
Despite being able to squeeze through them, ghouls cannot weave through small walls, even if placed horizontally. You can place your walls like this (see image to the right) and they cannot get to you. You can then shoot them with your guns or bows.
Robot Drug Interference[]
If a player uses a ghoul drug, robots (HAL bots, Lapabots, and Tesla Bots) will not attack you. However, they will attack if you stand right in front of them, or if you attack them, which makes them aggro you again.
Robot-Pumpkin ghoul Interference[]
If the same player places an attacking bot (HAL or Tesla Bot) then places a pumpkin seed which spawns a pumpkin ghoul, then the robot and ghoul will start fighting, though they are both supposed to be on the player's side.
Players and Client-side[]
Corner glitch[]
Occasionally, when the player presses "Play" and then they were to leave the tab and die in the game, then when they come back to the tab, their devaster will not show, the devaster will appear to be in the top left corner in the map, and you can still see your inventory.
Team and Map Editor Interference[]
If someone were to ask to join your team in a normal game but you die and go to map editor, you would find that the request to join clan message would stay there, even after you join map editor.
Incorrect Karma on Leaderboard[]
When an player first joins a game and establish a connection to the server, the leaderboard may display all the devasters on the leaderboard as angel/0-karma, rather than the karma they actually have. For instance, even if all the devasters on the leaderboard have red karma, they would all appear as angel karma to a player who has just joined.
Instant-death Display[]
If a player were to join a server and die instantly (say, to a super-strong Tesla Bot next to the player's spawn area), then the "YOU DIED" and "PLAY AGAIN" menu will not display.
Disappearing Grenade[]
Sometimes, after you throw a grenade, it will appear to be invisible in the hand until it lands on a target or stops flying.
Unending Cold[]
Sometimes, after night ends and daytime begins, the player will still lose cold. This can be reset temporarily by eating food or waiting for the next day, or standing next to a fire. The loss of cold is purely visual to the player, however, and they won't actually be hurt if the cold bar reaches 0.
Weapons and Melee[]
Latency Compensation[]
When you fire a weapon and you go in a certain direction, the bullet will fire to that direction, relative to the devaster. For instance, if you are strafing right and fire a 9mm, the bullet will actually fire slightly to the right of the gun, though it should instead fire straight from the weapon. This is generally because of high latency.
Melee Swipe[]
When you swing your melee, there is actually a slight delay until it actually deals damage or collects resources. For instance, if you fire your weapon, it will take time to actually connect to the thing you are hitting. However, if you aim and swipe towards something and quickly look away, you will still get items from that thing, or else deal damage to it. This will likely not be fixed as it is not a major bug, and it also entertaining to do. Usually, it can be attributed to lag.
Shotgun Magazine Extension[]
If the player were to craft a sawed-off-shotgun then destroy it while it is being crafted, then it will give back a shotgun with 15 bullets, though the maximum magazine size for the shotgun is supposed to be 8 bullets.
Server[]
Server List Freeze[]
This is a common bug where the server list will freeze and not update. For instance, if the list freezes when 100 players are in "PVP X10 XP SERVER" then no matter how many players leave or join that server, it will not show the real-time population of the server. The value displaying the total amount of players playing devast.io will also freeze.
Entity overflow[]
If there are too many entities on a server or there are too many requests, the server will crash, or else extremely laggy. It will be unavailable for a moment, and if it boots up again it will be a completely normal server, without any added commands. It becomes even more of a problem if the entities such as Lapabots are all stacked in one building gridspace. This was a common exploit that was patched but can still be pulled off with an enormous amount of Lapabots.
Lengthened Night[]
Very rarely, after a night "ends," it will continue for an extended period of time lasting minutes. This leads to nights being 16 minutes long, and daytime is delayed. However, usually it will not last for a very long extra time.
Misc.[]
Impossible Stack Size[]
If a player is on a server with harvest increased, then they were to harvest something like an antidote flower, which usually has a maximum amount of flowers per slot, you can still get more than the allotted amount of that material. For instance, if you are on a x10 Harvest server, then you were to harvest meat from a boar using a sulfur axe, you could get 30 raw meat while you are supposed to only be able to have 10 raw meat per slot.
Incorrect Inventory Drop on Corner Kill[]
If a player were to be killed on the corner of the border of the map, they may not drop all the items they had in their inventory. This is because the game can't drop items there (it will always drop items in a circle around the devaster otherwise), causing some of the items that would normally spill there to disappear instead.
2 Character in one game[]
If you enter a game and reset a page, you can play with 2 devasters in the same time
