The symmetrical base design given here is meant for 1-2 players in official devast.io, who follow the Level Rushing For Noobs / Level Rushing Strategy and later the Two Noobs Strategy. If you play alone this style, you can safely reach sniper-stage in 3-6 hours, but if some better equipped savage team appears, your progress will be extremely slow and survival chances decline. But enemy teams that follow the Least Investment Strategy won´t bother you - they can often be simply ignored and/or snipered away.

Make sure you have checked prior the base location page, so that you know where you should settle down!

Pros:

  • field-tested (not only theory - see screenshots)
  • suitable for 1-2 (noob) players
  • symmetrical - easy to remember, easy to build
  • matches perfect the Two Noobs Strategy, ideally combined with Level Rushing For Noobs / Level Rushing
  • smallest base that still provides all options and extensibility (hardening included) - you decide how far you want to develop
  • stable against all ghouls without the absolute necessity for lapabots (certainly some simple manual maintenance required!)
  • hard to raid, easy to defend!

Cons:

  • due to its size: 2 players maximum, 3 players only when well-practised and when expansion is done quickly

Explanation in detail:

Many things of this base design are not self-explanatory and won´t reach your awareness by simply looking at the sketch or screenshot. That´s why I put some explanation here to point out all important things that would become overlooked.

  • Since your screen is broader than high, your base should fill out the screen that rectangular way, to simply have best overview, and to have a bigger distance between the two entrances/exits, so that enemies can´t see your base completely.
  • It´s clear that the base should be build at the border, because the border is indestructible. Though the 4 corners of the game-field would give you 2 borders at once, I recommend NOT to use these locations because of 3 good reasons: First, many people try to build there, and many annoying players and savages seek the corners first. Second, you only have half the range for gathering resources in comparison to an in the middle build base and that´s a big drawback! Third, it´s a short way from one entrance/exit to the other for enemies, so you would loose the option of a real backdoor if you chose the corner location.
  • So the only locations are the top or the bottom border with some distance towards the corners. Also make sure that there is at least 1 house (better 2) with good resources nearby. Houses should not be too near (enemies will spot your base) and not too far away (because you will need resources from a house inevitably).
  • You start with an inside area of 9 x 4 fields. At the beginning you might only have low-doors. You should later replace them with full doors. There are only 2 entrances/exits, one to the left, one to the right, both towards the indestructible border. The rest of the base should be build of 3 layers of full stone walls. All the ghouls can´t bring that down in one night. It´s easy to fill up the gaps after night, and you have to go out there anyway to shoot down the ghouls and earn skill points and loot.
  • There´s no need to repair the outer walls. Certainly you should have a repair hammer and some nails, but save them up for emergency situations.
  • You should also be able to hunt ghouls at night with less good equipment (spears, crossbow, 9mm gun). That´s why it´s good to have some 4 low-doors in front of each entrance/exit. It´s also good to have a notch in the wall as a turn-back option: If someone snipers you, you don´t have to run directly into the core base. You can hide in the notch, recover and then go back completely.
  • How the 4 sides of your base are defended: One longer side is indestructible, because it´s the border. The other longer side is protected by 3-4 or more full-stone-wall layers. The shorter sides to the left and right are also protected by up to 3 full-stone-wall layers and additionally you conveniently and safely shoot the ghouls there at night from the low-door protected entrance/exit-squares. Since these are the shorter sides your weapon range is sufficient to kill any ghoul there but you might have to move inside the base, to see what ghouls are standing there.
  • In the very beginning you might want to plant all seeds you can get: tomatoes, oranges, trees. Later, when all evolves, you will concentrate on 5 tomatoes only.
  • It´s good to have some batteries when starting to build this base, because fridges are much better than chests (you can store everything there, and you can walk by because they are smaller). You should be able to save the skill point and unlock fridges instead of chests.
  • Be sure to place a road of at least 2 game-fields width made out of stone-plates at the entrances/exits. Otherwise some players might fool around and try to block your base (certainly you should have a hammer, also for collecting stuff in houses). If you are locked in, you won´t have a problem, if you cared for tomato-seed and wood in spare. Ghouls will destroy the enemies walls soon, and with a hammer you can always free yourself easily.
  • As long as you have no lapabots inside your base, I recommend you to have some wooden-traps. They are cheap but very efficient life savers. But if you decide to use lapabots after expanding and hardening the base (metal walls), you have to remove the wooden-traps, because lapabots die in it (like yourself), when they got activated by ghouls or enemies.
  • Keep in mind that grenades reach through walls and destroy everything that´s 2 game-fields after the wall (and so the lapabots too). So keep this area free from fridges etc. if you want to remain most stable and keep all your stuff.
  • You can start from scratch directly without the Level Rushing For Noobs / Level Rushing Strategy. But I explicitly do not recommend this, because it takes you extremely much longer to develop standards (metal-pickaxe, metal-axe, fur hood) and prevents you from going further to more developed stages (laser in best case).
  • The two pitfires should be side by side, because you often make shaped metal, seed, or tomato-cans and then you don´t have a long distance to go from one fire to the other.
